Fear is an unpleasant emotion from danger, or a reverence for God.

Spirit of fear

2 Timothy 1:7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear is an evil spirit, which God doesn’t give to Christians.

1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

God is perfect love, so fear is cast out when one is made perfect in love.

Fear of God

Proverbs 19:23: The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

People who trust in God fear him; they will experience life, satisfaction, and protection from evil.

Hebrews 12:28-29: Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

For our God is a consuming fire.

Fearing God means acknowledging God’s justice and wrath against sin; this leads to a desire to respectfully serve him.

Verses on not being afraid

Psalm 55:22: Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 6:25: Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Luke 12:7: But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Philippians 4:6: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

1 Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
